IHHC Approved Commemorative Partners with the U.S. Department of Defense – Vietnam War Commemoration

The Iowa Heartland History Connection (IHHC) is proud to announce that we have been approved as Commemorative Partners with the U.S. Department of Defense Vietnam War Commemoration. This means we will be hosting events, educational opportunities, and exhibits to honor our Vietnam War veterans through Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2025.

On May 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., we’ll have the opening of our Vietnam War museum exhibit as well as a Living History Exhibit on the lawn. This will be an interactive display that allows visitors to experience elements of the Vietnam War firsthand. It will include reenactors in uniform and a typical Vietnam camp set-up that will help to tell the story of the war. The exhibit is designed to be an immersive and educational experience that gives visitors a deeper understanding of this important moment in history.

The IHHC partnered with a history intern, Aidan McMahon, from Indian Hills Community College to design and install this exhibit. We were happy to give a student the hands-on opportunity to create a museum exhibit on a topic about which he was passionate. He is a regular participant in the local war reenactment scene and has late family members that are Vietnam veterans, so he was particularly interested in designing this exhibit and participating in the Living History Exhibit on the lawn.

If you are a Vietnam War veteran or know one, we will be presenting commemorative lapel pins to each veteran to thank them for their service. We will also have brochures available about the Vietnam War Commemoration program and some bumper stickers and pins to show your support for our veterans.

As part of our commitment to serving you better, the Iowa Heartland History Connection will be temporarily closed during January and February 2025.

This strategic decision allows us to focus on planning exciting new exhibits, refreshing our space, and preparing for a vibrant spring season! Historically, these months see lower visitor traffic, making it the perfect time to enhance your future museum experience.

Thank you for your support, and we can’t wait to welcome you back in March with even more to explore and enjoy!
